Harp Course with Alison Kinnaird at Blackhills Estate, Sat 2nd-Wed 6th July 2016 March 24 2016

Alison Kinnaird

Alison Kinnaird will again be teaching this very popular course, which takes place on the beautiful Blackhills Estate near Elgin in Morayshire. Early booking is recommended as the course is limited to fifteen participants.

The atmosphere is always relaxed and friendly and the course is longer this year; five days instead of the usual three, which provides more opportunity to learn in depth. The teaching is aimed at those with some experience of playing the harp, and is therefore not suitable for total beginners.

The £250 course fee includes all tuition and meals, and the early finish time each day allows opportunities to socialise, relax, play music together and explore the estate gardens. Limited accomodation and harp hire is available on a first-come first-served basis.

Alison Kinnaird has been at the forefront of the revival, and continuing success, of the Scottish harp. She plays both gut-strung Scottish harp and wire-strung clarsach, and is recognised as an authority on both the instrument and its history.

All our downloadable albums now include sleevenotes March 18 2016

Temple Records - Downloads with SleevenotesWe're pleased to say that in addition to our whole catalogue being available to download directly from this site, we now include the original sleevenotes with each downloaded album.

It's taken us quite a while to do this, but Temple Records and the artists on the label have always spent a long time preparing album sleevenotes. These notes contain lots of information about the tunes, songs and musicians, and we view this as a really valuable part of the package when you buy an album; something that can often get overlooked with the downloading experience.

Our price is still  better than itunes and their ilk, the sleevenotes are included, plus you've got the bonus of knowing that you're buying direct, which allows a small label like us to keep releasing records of these great traditional musicians. Have a browse through the catalogue at

If you've previously bought a download from us that didn't have notes included, and you'd like to get hold of them, just drop us an email; we'll send them along to you.

Battlefield Band's recording of Robert Burns' - 'My Luv's Like A Red Red Rose' January 25 2016

To celebrate the Bard of Ayrshire, here's Battlefield Band's take of one of Robert Burns best-loved works.

This recording is taken from the band's album Dookin', released in 2007 which you can find here:

Alan Reid says in the sleevenotes "we were taken with the less well known melody that I found in Johnson’s Scots Musical Museum (published 1784) for it seemed to us to be like a new song. Johnson suggests it is the original tune used by Burns for this poem. But just in case any of you pine for the more familiar tune, we play a bit of it as an instrumental break – a case of proportional representation"

Alan Reid – vocal, piano / Sean O'Donnell – Guitar, backing vocal; / Alasdair White – Fiddles, whistle / Mike Katz – whistle, Scottish small pipes
