Fiddlers 5 - Part TwoJust a quick update on this: The follow-up to the original Fiddlers 5 album is now well underway, with all of the ensemble tracks recorded already & just some solo tracks to work on before starting to mix the album. Produced by Robin Morton & co-ordinated by Alasdair White of Battlefield Band, the line-up this time around features Alasdair, John Martin (The Tannahill Weavers), Patsy Reid (Breabach) , Peter Tickell (Kathryn Tickell Band/Peatbog Faeries) & Gabe McVarish (Daimh) with Julian Sutton (Kathryn Tickell Band), Aaron Jones (Old Blind Dogs) & Alan Reid (Battlefield Band) providing accompaniment. Keep an eye on the newsletters & Temple Records website for developments.
The History: In 1991 Temple Records released an album called 'Fiddlers Five', featuring five of the best of Scotlands folk fiddlers - Brian McNeill, John Martin, Chuck Fleming, John McCusker & Marie Fielding, accompanied by Brian Miller (guitar) and Alan Reid (piano).
At the time when we were making the album so many people asked us why we were 'making a fiddle band album?' and our response always was 'because the music's so good'. It was one of those albums when, as you played it to people, half-way through the first track you could see a smile appear on their face & a light bulb go on in their head!
In the 17 years since, there have been fiddle groups galore so we were obviously onto something with the concept & we're now about to start work on the next chapter of the Fiddlers Five story. This time Alasdair White, the award winning fiddler with Battlefield Band, will co-ordinate the project and gather together four of Scotlands other top fiddlers, along with one or two other well respected traditional musicians to provide accompaniment.
Recording is scheduled to begin early in December 2008. Keep checking the Temple Records website for updates on this project.
