Jim Hunter - Uphill Slide

Select from currently available formats:

Jim Hunter is one of Scotland's finest singers and best kept cult secrets. A truly superb songwriter and guitarist with an instantly recognisable voice, and lyrics which can silence the most crowded room.To those in the know, the calibre, passion & depth of his work, invites comparisons with artists of the calibre of Townes Van Zandt & Springsteen.

Having learned the Highland pipes as a child, Jim picked up the guitar in his early teens and taught himself to play. Influenced by delta blues players, he developed his own style of playing with emphasis on slide and bottle-neck guitar, and his songs range from delicate acoustic ballads to powerful rock-orientated numbers. Crossing genres effortlessly, traditional and modern simultaneously, Jim Hunter's music is vigorous, fresh and passionate.

'Uphill Slide', Jim's first release on Temple Records,  is a compilation made up from two self-released cassettes in 1988 and 1989, and to which two new tracks have been added.

"He may be a new name to many, but Hunters singing has the worldly-wise ruggedness of a rock veteran, not without warmth, and his guitar playing, especially the eponymous slide work, can be similarly authoritative"
