Find work on Temple Records featuring Duncan MacGillivray
Ex-Battlefield Band bagpiper Duncan MacGillivray (also an accomplished whistle player and guitarist) received much inspiration during his early years in piping from his father D.P. MacGillivray who was a well established piper and Gold medallist from Ross-Shire. This was followed by tuition received at Glenalmond from another Gold medallist, P/M Jimmy MacGregor.
Duncan left Battlefield Band in 1983 has his hands full being a farmer in Easter Ross and bringing up a family; he now has five children. He continues to play and is still winning piping competitions. In 1997 he achieved the top award in Piping when he won the Gold Medal at the Northern Meeting in Inverness.
He is a member of ‘The Ghillies’, a group brought together to showcase new tunes written in a traditional style by musicians from all over Scotland, and also plays in a local ceilidh band called ‘Ben Wyvis and the Last Resort’.
Duncan can be heard on the following Battlefield Band albums:
'Stand Easy' & 'Preview' (Temple Records COMD2055), Home Is Where The Van Is (Temple Records COMD2006), There's A Buzz (Temple Records COMD2007), and also appears on 'A Controversy of Pipers' (Temple Records COMD1008)
