Mike Whellans - Swingtime Johnny Red

Select from currently available formats:

Scottish bluesman Mike Whellans has a long and dedicated musical background, with interests in jazz, folk & Scottish traditional music (an ex 'Boy of the Lough' and musical sidekick to Shetland fiddler Aly Bain), but his first and greatest love is the blues. His high energy style and raw, gutsy form of music has thrilled audiences all over the world.

90% of this album is made up of Mike's own songs, recorded simply & quickly with a few friends to capture the excitement of his performance & let his music shine through.

"This Denmark-based Scot is a genuine virtuoso, excelling on harp, guitar and particularly vocal percussion ... ten of the tracks are originals - tough, gutsy blues and rock R'n'B"
ROCK N REEL

"Whellans is a consummate bluesman: a brilliant songwriter, a sharp singer, and a mean hand at the guitar and harp. Think of him as Jimmy Reed or Willie Dixon transplanted from Lake Michigan to the shores of Loch Lomond"
