Roddy MacLeod MBE

Rightly regarded as one of the finest competing bagpipers of his generation, Roderick J MacLeod is The Piping CentreĀ¹s founding director of piping. One of the world's most accomplished competitive solo pipers, Roddy is also Pipe Major of the highly regarded Grade 1 Scottish Power Pipe Band.

Roddy was tutored by eminent piper and composer Duncan Johnston who found him a painstaking and musically gifted pupil. Roddy MacLeod went on to win all of solo piping's most coveted awards, many of them several times over. Among his outstanding achievements are the winning of the Bi-Centenary Clasp at the 1988 Northern Meeeting and two overall wins in the Glenfiddich Championship at Blair Atholl.

He is in keen international demand as a recitalist, judge and instructor. He has recorded both as a solo piper and as Pipe Major of the ScottishPower Pipe Band.

With a strong background in teaching, a dedication to the promotion of standards within piping and a zeal to widen popular appreciation of the pipes, he exemplifies the role, task and standing of The Piping Centre.
